Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Lewis and Clark Community College has been awarded a $535,680 Directed Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Lewis and Clark Community College will utilize these grant funds to implement a college student summer intern program at the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center where up to 20 students will undertake an 11 week applied learning experience. The funds will also be used to develop a web based Upper Mississippi River information system, a program for aquatic studies, environmental education programs and nature-based and cultural tourism programs.
"The National Great Rivers Research Center is an asset to our entire region," said Costello. "The research being conducted here will have an impact nationwide. This funding will allow these important research and educational programs to continue."
