COSTELLO DISAPPOINTED
IN EPA DECISION ON JENNISON-WRIGHT Washington - Reacting to the decision made by the United
States Environmental Protection Agency that the cleanup of the Jennison-Wright
Superfund Site in Granite City will be postponed, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello
(D-IL) said today that he was extremely disappointed in the EPA decision. Costello said that "It makes no sense to fund new Superfund projects
until the cleanup of projects that have already been started, like Jennison
Wright, are completed. The Jennison-Wright site has been on the Superfund list
since 1996 and limited work has been done on the project. I will continue to
press this issue with EPA officials and will not give up until we get results".
The Jennison-Wright Corporation manufactured railroad ties and
other wood-related products on the 18-acre site until it went bankrupt in 1989.
