Washington -- The Red Bud Police Department has been awarded a $75,000 grant for one full-time law enforcement officer under the federal COPS program, U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today.
"This assistance will help Red Bud add new personnel to its police force," Costello said. "As a former law enforcement official, I know more police in our neighborhoods helps reduce crime, improving safety in our communities."
The federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Universal Hiring Program, a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, allows local law enforcement agencies to get federal funds for new law enforcement personnel.
"It is important that Congress continue to fund the federal COPS program," Costello said. "This is a proven program that has been extremely helpful to local law enforcement agencies throughout my district."
