Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Millstadt Police Department has been awarded a $75,000 grant for one full-time law enforcement officer through the federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program.
“This assistance will help Millstadt protect its citizens,” Costello said. “As a former law enforcement official, I know more police in our neighborhoods helps reduce crime, improving safety in our communities.”
The COPS Universal Hiring Program, a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, allows local law enforcement agencies to receive federal funds for new law enforcement personnel.
“It is important that Congress continue to fund the COPS program,” Costello said. “This is a proven program that has been extremely helpful to local law enforcement agencies throughout the 12th Congressional District.”
