- CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO ISSUES STATEMENT ON BANKRUPTCY DECISION FOR HORIZON MINE WORKERS
Washington - Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) issued the following statement on the decision by a federal bankruptcy judge to grant Horizon Natural Resources' request to void its contracts with the union and cancel health care benefits for thousands of active and retired miners:
"I am extremely disappointed with this decision, which may hurt thousands of miners in Southern Illinois. I strongly support the United Mine Worker's efforts to appeal this ruling and will continue to work with the UMWA on this matter."
