Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Alton Community Unit School District #11 has been awarded a $243,503 Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This amount covers the first year of an expected two-year grant. The Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program helps schools improve and strengthen their emergency management plans, addressing prevention-mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Schools work with community partners to implement a comprehensive plan with appropriate training and simulations.
“The variety of threats our schools face have grown in amount and complexity,” said Costello. “This funding will help ensure that the district's emergency response plans are effective.”
