AREA SCHOOLS RECEIVE HUMANITIES AWARDS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that several Southern Illinois schools and libraries will receive teaching materials this summer as part of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Picturing America program. This program supplies schools with a set of large-scale reproductions of the works of American artists and photographers and a teachers resource book that will allow instruction across a variety of subjects. There are also extensive Web resources, including lesson plans, to further interest in the curriculum.

“Developing a knowledge and appreciation of art is an important part of a well-rounded education,” said Costello. “This program will not only help our students achieve, but our teachers as well.”
