Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement today regarding his priorities for federal economic stimulus legislation:
“I strongly believe that improving public infrastructure should be a part of any economic stimulus package. Projects that can be let and under construction within 90 days to improve our bridges, highways, waterways, railways and levees will put money directly into our communities, put construction tradesmen and women to work and leave us with important long-term economic assets. Every billion dollars in infrastructure investment creates 47,500 new jobs and $6.2 billion in economic activity. In this way, we can address two important public policy goals, stimulating our economy and upgrading our aging transportation network.”
