Belleville - A quilt by local artist Edna Patterson-Petty will be part of an exhibit celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama. Mrs. Patterson-Petty met with U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today in the Congressman’s Belleville District Office so that he could preview the quilt which will be displayed at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Patterson-Petty was contacted shortly before Thanksgiving by fellow artist Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi and invited to contribute a quilt to an exhibit that was being planned to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. The exhibit, Quilts for Obama: Celebrating the Inauguration of our 44th President, will consist of 44 quilts by artists from across the country. Edna Patterson-Petty is one of two Illinois artists chosen to contribute to this exhibit. The title of her quilt, which will be on exhibit in the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. for two months is, “Road to Redemption.”
“I am pleased and proud that Edna Patterson-Petty, a life long resident of East St. Louis, was selected to contribute to this national artistic exhibition,” said Costello. “Her quilt celebrates Barack Obama’s Inauguration and is a vivid tribute to its historical significance.”
