U.S. CONGRESSMAN JERRY COSTELLO SPEAKS AT WILLARD C. SCRIVNER M.D. PUBLIC HEALTH FOUNDATION DINNER

Scholarship named in Costello’s honor

Fairview Heights - On Friday, May 11, 2007 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) was the keynote speaker at the third annual “Spring Into Health” dinner held by the Willard C. Scrivner Public Health Foundation at the Fountains by Four Points Sheraton in Fairview Heights.

The Willard C. Scrivner Public Health Foundation annually awards scholarships to students in Illinois and Missouri who are pursuing careers in health related fields. This year, the foundation named one of their permanent scholarships, the “Jerry Costello Scholarship,” in honor of the Congressman’s many efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of health care in Southwestern Illinois. As St. Clair County Board Chairman, Costello was instrumental in forming the St. Clair County Health Department in 1985.

“It was truly an honor to have the Willard C. Scrivner Public Health Foundation dedicate a scholarship in my name,” said Costello. “Dr. Scrivner did so much for the quality of health care in our community and this foundation, formed in his honor, is ensuring that the good work he started will continue for future generations.”
