House approves Moore request for $30 million in transportation funding

Federal funds contained in the national transportation bill

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The House approved a bill today that included $30 million in federal funding requested by Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District-KS) for Kansas transportation projects. The funding passed as part of H.R. 3, the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users, which is known as “TEA-LU.”

“This critical investment would enhance the quality of life for Kansans by reducing gridlock and traffic congestion,” Moore said. “Not only would this funding improve our highways and public transit in Kansas, investing in transportation helps create jobs and spur the economy.”

Kansas projects that would be funded because of Moore’s efforts include:

* $8.5 million for replacement of the bridge over the Union Pacific railroad tracks on US-169 in Kansas City, Kansas; requested by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
* $5 million for construction of an interchange at K-7 and 55th Street/Johnson Drive in Johnson County, Kansas, an overpass structure for Clear Creek Parkway, and other access improvements; requested by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the City of Shawnee.
* $4 million for construction of several interchanges on I-435 and I-35 in Johnson County, Kansas, including: construction of a new interchange at I-435 and Antioch Road; reconstruction of the interchanges at I-35 and US-69 at 87th Street; reconstruction of US-69 between 87th Street and 119th Street; and reconstruction of I-435 between US-169 and US-69; requested by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
* $2 million for the Johnson County Transit I-35 commuter rail/fixed guideway project; requested by the Johnson County, Kansas, Transit Authority in cooperation with the Kansas City Area Transit Authority.
* $5 million for construction of an interchange at I-35 and Lone Elm Road with widening of I-35 to 6 lanes from the 151st Street interchange to 159th Street; requested by the City of Olathe.
* $5 million for construction of an interchange with K-10 highway at Lone Elm Road; requested by the City of Lenexa.
* $500,000 for construction of a bicycle-pedestrian facility connection from the City of Lawrence to Johnson County along K-10 highway; requested by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
