To find item records containing specific key words:

  1. Type up to three separate key words (or three separate lists of key words) in the Search For boxes
  2. Select a field or category to search, such as Author, Title, or Subject from in the drop down menu.
  3. Select a logical connector (AND, OR, NOT, or NEAR) to combine the key words in the next drop down menu. You may click the My Filters button to further limit your search by format, language, publication year, or location.
  4. Click the button to start the search.

    You may clear the form and start again by clicking the button.

    When searching your library, you may click on the My Filters button to further limit your search prior to starting a search.

 
Please Note:

  • You should use important or key words in the Search for box. Key words are not case sensitive, so cats is the same as CATS

  • You can use wildcard characters in any key word to instruct the system to find records containing derivatives of the key word, i.e.

    • Use an * (asterisk) to designate one or more unspecified characters in a key word

      • Type hos* to find hose, host, hostess, etc.

      • Type wa*n to find warn, walton, warden, washington, etc.

    • Use a single question mark to designate a single unspecified character

      • Type ho? to find hop, hog, hot, etc.

      • Type wa?n to find warn

    • Use two question marks to designate two unspecified characters, and so forth.

      • Type w??en to find women, woven, Woden, etc.

  • You can use proximity indicator, & , between two key words to search only for records where those words appear a specified number of characters apart.

    • Proximity indicators are possible within ONE category only.
    • Proximity indicators are possible between TWO terms only.

      • Type lung &2 cancer, to find lung within two characters of cancer.
