Judy accepts a Preserve America grant from First Lady Laura Bush and Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne. Mrs. Bush is Honorary Chair of Preserve America, an interagency initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy historic properties throughout the nation. Judy is accepting the grant on behalf of the City of Lockport, where it will be used to promote a broad range of cultural events such as Canal Days and the Lockport Cemetery Walk.

Judy and actor Chevy Chase visit outside the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities hearing on how school wellness programs can combat childhood obesity. Testifying at the hearing was Naperville resident and retired physical education teacher Phil Lawler, director of PE4life Instruction and Outreach. PE4life is an organization that trains physical education teachers and advises school districts on how to incorporate health-and-wellness-based physical education programs in their communities.
Judy visits with Nora Xu from Naperville at the Capitol's Rayburn Room. Nora is a finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search contest, where she submitted a paper on nanoscience. In her conversation with Judy, Nora said Argonne National Laboratory was a huge resource for her project. Nora is a student at the Illinois Math and Science Academy.
Judy at the U.S. Department of Labor’s 2006 Labor Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Program with Walgreen Company Chairman David Bernauer, Walgreens Senior Vice President Kevin Walgreen and U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. The late Charles R. Walgreen, Kevin’s great-grandfather, was honored at the ceremony.
