SIUC RECEIVES FEDERAL GRANTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University Carbondale has received federal grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).  The grants include:

  • $214,080 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of HHS for a research project entitled, “Protein/Peptide Separation with Polymer Brush Nanosponges.”
  • $199,997 from NSF for a research project entitled, “C2P2 Oriented Laboratory Instruction in Geotechnical Engineering using Digital Videos and Evaluation of its Impact on Students' Learning.”

“Both of these projects will help advance important research in their fields and further demonstrate the importance of SIUC as a national research institution,” said Costello, a senior member of the House Science Committee.  “As a country, we must continue to invest in basic research to keep our economy strong and foster the innovation necessary to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”
