COSTELLO ASKS FEMA, CORPS OF ENGINEERS FOR FLOOD EQUIPMENT

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today joined other members of the Illinois Congressional delegation in asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide the state of Illinois additional flood control supplies, including pumps, hoses, sandbags, sandbag-filling machines and generators in preparation for expected floods on the Mississippi and other rivers. Heavy rains over the last month and major storms in Iowa and Wisconsin have caused serious flooding that is approaching Southwestern and Southern Illinois.

Earlier today, Costello received a briefing from the Corps of Engineers on the status of river levels and flood preparations. He will continue to receive regular briefings and coordinate activities with federal agencies, state and local officials and the Illinois Congressional delegation.

“We are keeping a close eye on local conditions and taking necessary precautions,” said Costello. “Everybody in the region should pay attention to the latest updates on water levels and prepare accordingly.”
