Washington - Bob Zerkle, representing Mascoutah Community Unit School District #19, met with U.S. Congressmen Jerry Costello (D-IL) and John Shimkus (R-IL) in Congressman Costello’s Washington, D.C. office on Tuesday, April 1.
Mr. Zerkle served in the Mascoutah School District for 38 years, as a teacher, Business Manager and Assistant Superintendent, before retiring in 2001 and has continued to be active on the issue of Impact Aid. Impact Aid is a program of the U.S. Department of Education which provides assistance to local school districts that have been impacted by the presence of federal property, such as the impact on the Mascoutah School District by the presence of Scott Air Force Base. Zerkle has recently received several awards commending his efforts, including the 2008 Friends of the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools Award and the Globe Award recognizing his career working on behalf of Impact Aid.
