Acquisition, Finance, and Business Management Professional Development Programs

Excellent opportunities exist for employees to participate in the Business Management, Program Management, Financial Management, and Contracting Specialist Intern Programs. These highly competitive programs are designed to develop aspiring professionals' skills and knowledge in preparation for challenging careers supporting the internal infrastructure of a federal agency comparable in size and budget to the top 10% of Fortune 500 companies. Candidates gain experience through rotational assignments and education obtained from colleges and universities, including the Defense Acquisition University (DAU), which is recognized across the entire Department of Defense.

Business Management Intern Program
The purpose of the Business Management Intern Program (BMIP) is to develop individuals who can successfully participate in, and eventually lead, numerous business tasks that include, but are not limited to: formulating and coordinating program/budget estimates and other financial planning tasks; advising/assisting Program Managers in discharging the business and financial management aspects of an acquisition; and developing, justifying, and tracking resource requirements (manpower and dollars) to support the implementation of strategic plans. Graduates of this program will be individuals who can successfully support all phases of the acquisition process, from planning through contract award and administration. This program provides highly qualified candidates an opportunity for strategic professional development, career broadening assignments, outstanding advancement potential and higher level education to prepare them for dynamic and robust careers within this Agency's acquisition workforce. The establishment of this program will build a new foundation of strong business acumen to support the strategic goals of the National Security Agency and ensure long-term financial accountability and responsible stewardship well into the future.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline such as: accounting, law, business, finance, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, and/or organizational management.
  • Three years or less of NSA/CSS experience.
  • Willingness to commit up to three years toward initial program completion with an additional three years assigned as a Business Manager upon completion of rotational assignments, certifications, and graduate-level classes.

Program Management Intern Program
The purpose of the Program Management Intern Program (PMIP) is to develop individuals who can successfully participate in, and eventually lead, current and future DoD integrated acquisition, technology, and logistics activities. Additionally, it is the intent of the program to develop future key leaders by providing guidance and opportunities for professionally broadening experiences and career progression. This program introduces Interns to the leadership skills necessary to manage Key Leadership Positions (KLPs), enhance program stability and accountability, and ensure effective use of training and education resources. The tasks required include, but are not limited to: coordinating program/budget estimates and other financial planning tasks; partnering with Business Managers to address the business and financial management aspects of an acquisition; and developing, justifying, and tracking resource requirements (manpower and dollars) to support the implementation of strategic plans.

Graduates of this program will be able to successfully participate in all phases of the acquisition process, from requirement identification and refinement through testing, verification, deployment and disposal. This program provides highly qualified technical candidates an opportunity for strategic professional development, outstanding advancement potential and graduate-level education in preparation for dynamic and robust careers within this Agency's acquisition workforce.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • BA or BS degree in a technical discipline such as: computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, physics, industrial technology, or a related area.
  • Three years or less of NSA/CSS experience.
  • Willingness to commit up to three years toward initial program completion with an additional three years assigned as a Program Manager upon completion of rotational assignments, certifications, and graduate-level classes.

Financial Management Intern Program
The purpose of the Financial Management Intern Program (FMIP) is to provide an infusion of new talent into NSA's Financial Management Career Field. The Program is designed to develop individuals who can successfully participate in all phases of the financial process: program build, financial plan execution, accounting and reporting. This Program provides qualified candidates the opportunity for development through career broadening assignments, mentoring, training, and graduate-level education to prepare them for a career within the National Security Agency's financial workforce.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business/finance-related discipline such as: accounting, business, finance, contracts, purchasing, or economics.
  • Three years or less of NSA/CSS experience.
  • Willingness to commit up to three years toward initial program completion with an additional three years assigned as a Financial Analyst upon completion of rotational assignments, certifications, and graduate-level classes.
