The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is dedicated to providing graduate education (master's and PhD) and research in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science. We also offer tailored non-thesis programs for the Air Force's Intermediate Developmental Education Program and certificate programs in the area of Information Assurance. Our programs are specifically designed to provide career professionals with Air Force relevant graduate education consistent with future duties across the spectrum of the research and development, test and evaluation, and technical program management missions.
The majority of our students are sponsored by the Air Force for full-time graduate education through AFIT. This provides selected officers, enlisted and civilian personnel with a unique opportunity to investigate problems of concern to the Air Force without the distractions of a regular assignment. With this sharper focus, AFIT students make a lasting impact on the future direction of the Air Force. Similar opportunities for fully-funded graduate study at AFIT are available for students from other branches of the US military and Government agencies, and for international military officers. There are also scholarship and stipend opportunities available for prospective students who are not affiliated with the US Air Force. Please visit our Admissions pages for more information.
In addition to about 40 faculty members, the Department includes distinguished visitors and active professors emeriti. Faculty members are outstanding teachers and have developed active, well-funded research programs in many contemporary fields in electrical and computer engineering. Our student-to-faculty ratio is about 3:1, providing an educational environment where all students receive the personalized mentoring required for a successful graduate experience. Graduate students meet regularly with the faculty for academic and career advising and interact in classes, seminars, and research group meetings.
