Welcome to the home page of security research and education for the Department of Computer Science and the point of coordination for activities at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

UMass Amherst has been an NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education since 2003. We are certified as a center until 2009. We also receive funding from the National Science Foundation for our educational activities.

We are involved in a variety of research projects, educational programs, outreach, and speaker seminars. Following the links above, you can find out more about our work.

Our efforts are collaborative across the university and surrounding area. Several departments offer courses and for undergraduates and graduates on information assurance. The Department of Computer Science offers a B.S. concentration in IA. Many research groups across campus have activities in security and privacy. We have coordinated activities with faculty across all five colleges.

  If you are not a CS Major, consider taking CMPSCI 120: Introduction to Problem Solving with the Internet. Among other topics, it covers public key cryptography, copyright laws, First Amendment issues, and privacy in a digital world.
• Subscribe to the mailing list for undergraduates enrolled or interested in the IA concentration.
• UMass Amherst courseware is now certified to meet the National Training Standard for NSTISSI 4011 and 4013E.
