Rep. Ellen Tauscher Comments on Breach of Security at Los Alamos National Laboratory

Washington, DC – In light of the most recent security breach at Los Alamos National Laboratory Rep. Ellen Tauscher, Chairman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee released the following statement.

“The American people expect that our most sensitive national security secrets are being protected with due diligence.  This comes through vigilance, proper training, and checks and balances in our security systems that eliminate preventable mistakes.  In order to get the security at our national laboratories to where it needs to be, security breach incident reporting to Congress must be required of the DOE and NNSA.  It is unacceptable that six months after this most recent gaffe, Congress is just now hearing about it.  Ultimately the Energy Department and NNSA are responsible for protecting this sensitive information, and they must be held accountable when breaches occur.”

Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher
