A Celebration: U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter of New York, Dr. Francis S. Collins of the National Institutes of Health, and Judy commemorate the signing into law of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, which prohibits health insurers and employers from discriminating on the basis of genetic information. Collins successfully mapped the human genome; Judy and Slaughter are the chief House sponsors of the new law.
Judy with Genetic Alliance President Sharon F. Terry and Genetic Alliance Founder Joan O. Weiss at the Genetic Alliance Gala in Washington.
Judy meets Joanna Rudnick and Beth Iams of Chicago-based Kartemquin Films. Rudnick and Iams, producers for the in-production documentary film called “In the Family”, talk with Judy about her legislation on genetic information non-discrimination. A film about women who decide to undergo genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancers, “In the Family” chronicles the lives of women from the decision, testing and coping processes of living with the familial breast cancer mutation gene.
