SUBJECT:	STAFF REQUIREMENTS - SECY-01-0074 - APPROVAL TO PUBLISH GENERIC LICENSE RENEWAL GUIDANCE DOCUMENTS

The Commission has approved the staff's recommendation to publish Regulatory Guide 1.188 "Standard Format and Content for Applications to Renew Nuclear Power Plant Operating Licenses," and NUREG-1800 "Standard Review Plan for the Review of License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants," for implementation, as described in SECY-01-0074.

The Commission commends the staff for their outstanding efforts in developing these license renewal guidance documents. These documents should serve to enhance the predictability, consistency, and efficiency of the NRC reviews of license renewal applications.

The staff should keep the Commission informed on the progress of the Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) demonstration project and of any significant issues that arise during that project.
