Rep. Ellen Tauscher Commends Local Girl Scouts for Supporting Troops

Troops overseas to receive Girl Scout Cookies

Washington, DC - Earlier today, Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, outgoing Co-Chairman of the Congressional Girl Scout Caucus, commended Girl Scout Troops from the Napa-Solano Council for their support of our brave young men and women serving overseas by submitting a statement for the Congressional Record.

As part of their community service, Girl Scouts across the Nation are participating in the Gift of Caring Program, which allows Girl Scout Troops to sponsor specific organizations with donations from cookie sales.  During cookie sales, girls ask customers if they would like to by additional boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be donated to an organization.  This year, Girl Scout Troops from the Napa-Solano Girls Scout Council chose our brave men and women serving overseas as one of their recipients.  In addition, the Council voted to match the donations on a one to one basis, up to 2000 boxes.

The intent is to send our troops the message that they are being thought of at home and to put a smile on their faces when they receive the cookies.  In addition to sending the cookies overseas, local troops are writing letters of appreciation to include with the cookies. 

“Last week we honored the Girl Scouts as they celebrated their 95-year anniversary and expressed our continued support for their mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character,” said Rep. Tauscher.  “The Gift of Caring Program exemplifies Girl Scouts carrying out that mission.”

Congresswoman Tauscher was pleased to add her support to the Gift of Caring program by working with a local troop to send additional boxes.  The Gift of Caring Program, benefiting the troops, will continue through Sunday.
