Reactor License Renewal Review
This review relates to information in the reactor license renewal
overview.
On this page:
1. What is the length of
the original license term for a nuclear power plant?
- 20 years
- 40 years
- 60 years
2. Up to how many years
can be granted for each renewed license?
- 10 years
- 20 years
- 30 years
3. How many review paths
are involved for license renewal?
- 1
- 2
- 3
- 4
4. There are two principles
of license renewal. One of them is the plant specific licensing basis
must be maintained during the renewal term
in the same manner and to the same extent as during the original licensing
term. The other is:
- The plant must be rebuilt to meet
the most up to date standard.
- The regulatory
process is adequate to ensure the safety of all operating
plants, with the possible
exception of the detrimental effects of aging.
- All plant design and operating
issues must be re-reviewed for license renewal.
1. What is the focus of
a safety review?
- Management of aging effects on the
plant structures and components
- Design of the plant structures
and components
2. Are structures and components
relied on for emergency operating procedures (EOP) within the scope
of license renewal?
- Yes
- No
3. Why is the aging management
of "active" structures and components not
addressed?
- "Active" structures and
components do not age.
- Aging effects of "active"
structures and components are more readily detected and corrected by
surveillance and maintenance activities as required throughout the plant's
operation.
4. The plant's current licensing
basis states "Maximum
wind speed of 100 mph is expected to occur once per 50 years." Is this
a time-limited aging analysis?
- Yes
- No
5. Must an applicant meet
everything in the GALL report?
- Yes
- No
6. Determine whether the
following statements are true:
- The staff uses the information in the Standard Review Plan
as guidance in its review.
- The applicant uses the information in the regulatory guide
as guidance in preparation for its application.
- The first statement is true
- The second statement is true
- Both statements are true
- Neither statement
is true
7. The review approach for
scoping and screening is: (Pick one)
- Verify that what the applicant
has identified to be long-lived, passive structures and components that
are within the scope of license renewal are correct.
- Verify that the applicant has not
omitted long-lived passive structures and components that are within
the scope of license renewal.
8. Is there a difference
between "AMR" and "AMP"?
- Yes
- No
9. When an applicant indicates
that certain information is consistent with the GALL report, how is
that information reviewed by the staff?
- Office review
- On-site audit
1. There are generally how
many license renewal inspections?
- 1
- 2
- 3
2. Which of the following
are license renewal specific inspection guidance documents?
- Manual Chapter 2516
- Inspection Procedure 71002
- Inspection Procedure 71003
- The first document
- The second document
- The third document
- All three documents
3. What is the purpose of
the regional inspection?
- Verification
of the applicant's implementation of and compliance with license
renewal requirements
- Duplicative review of the
license renewal application
1. How many times can the
public provide comments on the environmental review process?
- 1
- 2
- 3
2. When will Category 1
issues be evaluated?
- If there is new plant-specific
information on the issue that might change the conclusion in the
Generic Environmental Impact Statement
- If there
is significant plant-specific information on the issue that might
change the conclusion in the
Generic Environmental Impact Statement
- If there
is new and significant plant-specific information on the issue that
might change the conclusion in the
Generic Environmental Impact Statement
3. What is the resulting
document for the environmental review?
- Site-specific
supplement to the Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal
- Environmental Assessment
- Generic Environmental Impact
Statement
