Fortenberry Congratulates Lincoln Children's Zoo

Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry congratulated the Lincoln Children's Zoo for being one of six institutions in the nation to receive the 2006 National Award for Museum and Library Service. The award was presented today by First Lady Laura Bush during a special reception at the White House.

"I am very, very proud of my hometown zoo," Fortenberry said. "The Lincoln Children's Zoo enriches the community by providing families and children with a unique educational experience. My family frequently visits the zoo, and I congratulate John Chapo, the zoo staff, and the board on this well-deserved award."

The National Awards for Museum and Library Service are awarded annually by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to institutions that have demonstrated a long-term commitment to public service through innovative programs and community partnerships. As part of the award, the Lincoln Children's Zoo will receive $10,000 to help raise public awareness of the good work it is doing in the community.
