Washington, DC - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry discussed the status of the Korean beef market with U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab earlier this week at the World Economic Forum in Egypt.
“Our trade officials are confident the South Korean market will be open to American beef producers soon, hopefully in the next few weeks,” Fortenberry said. “This is good news for Nebraska cattlemen, who have long awaited the opportunity to re-engage this important market. I am pleased we at last appear to be moving forward.”
The agreement to fully reopen South Korea’s market to U.S. beef exports consistent with international standards and World Animal Health Organization (OIE) guidelines was announced last month, but plans to open the market have been recently delayed.
