FCCS Tutorial

A self-paced tutorial for the FCCS is available in .html and .zip file formats. Student and instructor guides are also included for those interested in teaching this tool to colleagues.

University Credit Course

The University of Idaho, College of Natural Resources, is creating a 2-credit workshop that includes the photo series, FCCS, and Consume 3.0 in concert with one another as methods to characterize fuels. For more information, visit http://401series.net. The class is titled "Fuels Inventory and Mapping," and will be offered during the Spring 2008 semester.

Technical Fire Management Class

Several FERA products, including FCCS, are taught in the Technical Fire Management classes. These classes are offered once a year in the Seattle, Washington area by the Washington Institute.

Regional Workshops

A series of regional workshops funded by the Joint Fire Science Program was offered by FERA to train managers on the use of the Fuel Characteristic Classification System (FCCS), Consume 3.0, the natural fuels photo series, and how they work together.

• Southern Region (Held November 8-10, 2005 in Ichauway, Georgia)
• Hawaii Region (Held February 28-March 2, 2006 in Hilo)
• Pacific Northwest Region (Held May 16-18, in Sunriver, Oregon)
• Alaska Region (Held August 15-17, Fairbanks)
• Midwest Region (Held November 2006 in West Portsmouth, Ohio)
• Pacific Southwest Region (Held March 13-17 in San Luis Obispo, California)
• Southwest Region (May 2-4, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico)

Additional workshops have been offered by several sponsors:
