McKeon Announces Education and Labor Subcommittee Ranking Members

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA), the senior Republican on the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee, today announced the Republican leadership for the panel’s five subcommittees.

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) has been named Senior Republican on the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. Rep. Price has served on the Education and Labor Committee since coming to Congress in 2005 and has been a leading voice for modernizing the American workplace.

Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) has been named Senior Republican on the Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness Subcommittee. Rep. Guthrie was elected to Congress in 2008, bringing with him an extensive background in higher education and workforce development issues through his work in the Kentucky State Senate.

Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) returns as Senior Republican on the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee. In his years as Chairman and Ranking Member of that panel, Rep. Castle has led Republican efforts to reform K-12 education, strengthen early childhood programs including Head Start, and help bring down childhood obesity rates by reforming child nutrition programs.

Rep. Todd Platts (R-PA) returns as the Senior Republican on the Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee. Rep. Platts has spearheaded Republican reforms to national service programs including AmeriCorps, as well as initiatives that protect vulnerable youth such as the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act.

Rep. John Kline (R-MN) returns as the Senior Republican on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee. Rep. Kline has been a leading Republican voice on a range of critical employment and employee benefit issues ranging from pension reform and small business health care access to protection of workers’ rights, including the right to a secret ballot.

“We have assembled an outstanding leadership team for the Education and Labor Committee in the 111th Congress. These five members will play a critical role in defining the Republican vision for education reform and economic growth, and I’m looking forward to working with each of them,” said McKeon.
