Congressman Brown, D.C. Staff Show Their Support for Iraqi Parliamentary Elections

Iraqi Election Support

Washington, Dec 15, 2005 -

U.S. Representative Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC), and his Washington Congressional Staff dipped their fingers in a symbolic show of support for the Iraqi people as they cast their votes in the nation's parliamentary elections.

"My staff and I are proud to make this symbolic gesture of support for the people of Iraq as they go to the polls," Brown said. "A civic exercise that most of us take for granted is one that is brave act of patriotism in Iraq. The opportunity to vote for their representatives is one of the things our forces have fought to provide the Iraqis."

According to Gen. George W. Casey, Jr., the commanding general of the Multi-National Force-Iraq, "Iraqis want to participate in the process and have a vote. A stable and democratically elected government is important in the next phase of a free Iraq."
