Congressman Brown Responds to Call for Additional Troops in Iraq

Washington, Jan 10 -

Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) issued the following statement concerning the expected call by President Bush for additional troops to be deployed to Iraq:

"President Bush's strategy for Iraq is as important as the number of increased American forces. This plan to increase troop strength comes with the understanding that the Iraqi government must move forward to take charge of their country's defense. Factions within Iraq must recognize the need to pursue the leadership of the region's terrorist organization. The people of the region in neighboring countries must buy in to the goal of eliminating terrorism. This is not America's problem; this is the world's problem.

I hope that Americans will understand our mission in Iraq has resulted in positive steps for a nation of 26 million people that had been under the control of a brutal dictator for 30 years. I will continue to support our troops as they fight this worldwide war on terror and ask my fellow Americans to join me in a renewed commitment to this undertaking."
