Immediate Release Contact: Betsy Hart HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $165,930 GRANT FOR SOUTH DAKOTA COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
September 23rd, 2008-Today, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin announced that the South Dakota Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault received a grant in the amount of $165,930 from the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women. This funding will be used by the Coalition to address violence against women on many levels and provide resources to various state and local agencies. “Violence against women and children for any reason is unacceptable and must be addressed,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “This grant will support the important work of The South Dakota Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault as they provide resources to victims and improve coordination between state, local and tribal entities.” Funding from the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalition Grant Program can be used for services including providing technical assistance to member agencies; expanding technological capacity for member agencies or the coalition; developing or enhancing appropriate standards of services for member programs; conducting statewide, regional and community-based meetings or workshops; bringing local programs together to identify gaps in services and to coordinate activities; increasing the representation of underserved populations in coordination activities; engaging in activities that promote coalition building at the local and state level; coordinating federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to develop or enhance strategies to address identified problems. ### Congresswoman

She is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate Democrats
committed to fiscal discipline and strong national security, and is
co-chair of the Rural Working Group, which is dedicated to raising the
profile of issues important to rural America. She also serves on three
committees vital to South Dakota’s interests: Agriculture, Veterans’
Affairs and Natural Resources. In the 110th Congress, Rep. Herseth Sandlin
was one of only 15 members appointed to serve on the Select Committee
