HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $215,255 IN HEAD START FUNDING FOR SINTE GLESKA UNIVERSITY

September 18, 2008, Washington, DC- Today, Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that Sinte Gleska University is the recipient of a Head Start grant in the amount of $215,255. As part of the Head Start Career Partnership Program, this funding will help the university increase the number of Head Start teachers with degrees in early childhood education.

“Qualified teachers with expertise in early childhood development play an essential role in Head Start’s success,” Herseth Sandlin said. “This funding will help ensure that children from low income families have the opportunities for growth and development necessary for a successful education.”

Created in 1965 and administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, Head Start provides education, health and social services to low income children and their families with the goal of improving school readiness.
