HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $424,815 JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX TRIBE September 17th, 2008, Washington, DC-Today, Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is the recipient of an Edward Byrne Memorial grant in the amount of $424,815. This funding will assist the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in their efforts to enhance their tribal criminal justice system and to update law enforcement equipment, uniforms and supplies for the police department. “There are many steps we need to take to improve law and order in Indian Country and increasing funding is essential to this goal,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “With these funds, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe will be better equipped to prosecute crimes and keep their community safe.” The Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance. ###
