HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $99,337 FORENSIC SCIENCES IMPROVEMENT GRANT FOR SOUTH DAKOTA OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL September 12th, 2008, Washington, DC-Today, Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that the South Dakota Office of the Attorney General is the recipient of a U.S. Department of Justice Paul Coverdell National Forensic Sciences Improvement Grant in the amount of $99,337. This funding will assist the Attorney General’s office in performing forensic science and medical examiner services. “We’ve seen extraordinary advances in forensic science in recent years,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “This funding will help ensure that our South Dakota law enforcement officials have state-of-the-art tools available to them when conducting investigations and keeping communities safe.” Administered by National Institute of Justice, the Paul Coverdell National Forensic Sciences Improvement Act program provides funding for law enforcement agencies to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner services as well as eliminate backlogs in the analysis of forensic evidence, including controlled substances, firearms examination, forensic pathology, latent prints, questioned documents, toxicology and trace evidence. ###
