HERSETH SANDLIN STATEMENT ON HOUSE VOTE TO RESTORE HIGHWAY TRUST FUND BALANCE

Washington, DC, September 11, 2008- Following House passage of H.R. 6532, legislation to restore the Highway Trust Fund balance, Rep. Herseth Sandlin released the following statement:
“Fixing the shortfall in the highway trust fund is essential to not only keeping infrastructure in South Dakota safe but also for supporting new construction projects. That’s why I co-sponsored this legislation and voted for its passage when it came before the House earlier this summer. Although it’s unfortunate that the situation deteriorated to this point of needing this fix, I’m pleased that previous opponents have reversed their position and signaled their willingness to allow the funding to be restored.”
