HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $67,000 SUICIDE PREVENTION GRANT FOR HELPLINE CENTER, INC
September 10th, 2008, Washington, DC-Today, Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that the Helpline Center, Inc of Sioux Falls is the recipient of a $67,000 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service Grant. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Mental Health Services, this funding will be used to support the center’s suicide prevention efforts. “Suicide is tragic and has lasting effects on families and communities,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “Over the years, organizations like the Helpline Center have raised awareness of the signs of suicide and educating the public about steps that can be taken to prevent it. This grant will support Helpline Center further enhance its suicide prevention program as we work to improve mental health services and reduce the overall occurrence of suicide in South Dakota and across the country.” Specifically, the funding from this grant will be used by Helpline Center, Inc to place follow-up suicide prevention calls. ###
