Immediate Release Contact: Betsy Hart August 1st, 2008, Washington, DC- Today, the House of Representatives approved funding for the Military Construction and Department of Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill by a vote of 409-4. Included in the legislation is $33.5 million requested by Rep. Herseth Sandlin for essential upgrades to South Dakota’s National Guard Facilities, Joe Foss Field in Sioux Falls and Camp Rapid in Rapid City. “South Dakota’s National Guard and Reserve is comprised of some of our finest men and women who work on a daily basis to protect the rest of us,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “By providing them with world-class facilities in which to train, we better prepare them for their missions at home and abroad which ultimately makes our country a safer place to live. It is extremely disappointing that the President has signaled his intention to veto this bill, which is essential to our national defense. But I am encouraged by the bipartisan show of support in the House today and hope the Senate will quickly follow suit to move this bill one step closer toward becoming law. ” The funding requested
