HERSETH SANDLIN SUPPORTS EFFORT TO HALT MEDICARE REIMBURSEMENT CUTS

Washington, DC, July 9, 2008-
Rep. Herseth Sandlin issued the remarks below following Congressional approval by a veto-proof majority of legislation that makes important reforms to Medicare and stops a 10.6% cut to physician Medicare reimbursement payments.

“Putting a stop to cuts in Medicare physician payments is a critical victory for healthcare providers and patients across our state. Veto-proof majorities in the House and the Senate have put the interests of Medicare beneficiaries before insurance companies and I hope that given the strong showing of support today, the President will reconsider his veto threat. This bill levels the playing field and ensures that all Medicare beneficiaries, including those enrolled in traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage, continue to have access to quality, affordable healthcare for years to come.”
