HERSETH SANDLIN STATEMENT ON FARM BILL VETO OVERRIDE

May 21, 2008-Washington, DC-Following a presidential veto of the Farm Bill today, the House voted 316-108 to override that veto. Rep. Herseth Sandlin released the following statement in response to the override:

“It’s disappointing, but not surprising, that the President vetoed good farm legislation today. Fortunately, Congress responded to his veto with a strong vote to override, drawing support from lawmakers from both parties and from every region of the country. As I’ve said many times, this Farm Bill isn’t perfect, but it is a very strong piece of legislation that will provide critical programs and services to producers in rural America. Producers across the country have waited long enough to finish this process and I’m pleased that we had such a strong show of support to override the veto and enact the bill.”
