2008 SW PA Science Bowl
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (DOE/NETL), and the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), South Campus, would like to invite you to participate in one of the premier scientific events for high school students, the Southwestern Pennsylvania High School Science Bowl 2008 on February 23, 2008.
There is a change this year in the registration process: All school teams who are registering must do so through the National Science Bowl website.
For those who are not familiar with the Science Bowl here are some highlights:
- This competition is open to high school student teams from Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA).
- Teams are quizzed on their scientific knowledge in areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, general science, and mathematics.
- The winning team will receive an expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the DOE National Science Bowl. (May 1-6, 2008)
- For the past 17 years, the winners of the SWPA Science Bowl have placed in the top ten at the National Competition.
- In 2006, the SWPA sponsored school won the National Competition, had lunch at the White House with the First Lady and traveled to Paris, France.
- In 2007, the SWPA sponsored school placed second in the National Competition and traveled to France to visit Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
- Each school that competes in the Saturday competition has an opportunity to accept a Gateway computer for use in your school district.
