Congressman Brown's Statement on the Death of Spoleto Founder, Gian Carlo Menotti

Washington, Feb 1 - Congressman Henry E. Brown Jr. (SC-01) made the following statement following the announcement of the death of Gian Carlo Menotti, founder of Spoleto Festival USA:

“Gian Carlo Menotti combined his extraordinary musical talent with a desire to share his love of the arts and created the Spoleto festivals, an internationally acclaimed celebration of music, dance, theater and visual arts. Because of Menotti’s vision, countless thousands have been given the opportunity to experience a vast array of creative artists’ performances through his ‘Festival of Two Worlds.’

Charleston and the State of South Carolina will be forever indebted to Gian Carlo Menotti for planting the seed that blossomed and grew into the Spoleto Festival which affords us the opportunity each year to showcase the Lowcountry while providing a venue for all those who share an appreciation for the arts.

My prayers and condolences are extended to his family and loved ones in their time of bereavement.”
