Henry Brown's Statement on President Bush's Announcement of

U.S. Troop Reductions in Iraq

WASHINGTON, DC – Following President Bush’s announcement of troop reductions in Iraq, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) released the following statement:

“I welcome President Bush’s announcement today to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq. This drawdown is a response that supports the facts on the ground showing the success of the surge.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our heroes from the Charleston Air Force Base for all of their hard work and dedication to their mission. It is because of their efforts that we are moving forward with the transfer of Iraq’s national security duties onto the Iraqi people. Additionally, Charleston’s Naval Weapons Station has played an important role in preparing more than 10,000 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles that have been invaluable in protecting our warfighters.

I look forward to further troop reductions in Iraq, based upon conditions on the ground, and believe that our men and women so courageously representing us overseas are improving the conditions in Iraq and are enabling their own return home.”
