Digital Transition
On January 15, 2009, all full-power broadcast television stations in Hawai‘i will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital. In order to avoid disrupting the migration of an endangered indigenous bird in February, Hawaii will undergo the conversion to DTV nearly a month before the rest of the country. Digital broadcasting will allow stations to offer improved picture and sound quality as well as additional channels.
