BUCHANAN HONORED FOR PRO-JOBS RECORD

CONGRESSMAN RECEIVES SPIRIT OF ENTERPRISE AWARD FROM U.S. CHAMBER
May 16, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13) was awarded the “Spirit of Enterprise” Award today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for his strong support of legislation to help boost the economy and create jobs.

“I am a businessman, not a politician,” said Buchanan.   “I understand that for businesses to grow and create jobs, we need lower taxes, fewer regulations and less litigation.”

The award is based on rankings it gives members of Congress for key votes on issues established as priorities by the Chamber’s board of directors.  Members of Congress who support the Chamber’s position on at least 70 percent of key votes receive the “Spirit of Enterprise” Award.  Buchanan received a score 85 percent.

"The business community depends on solid partnerships on Capitol Hill to help grow the economy and create new jobs for hardworking Americans," said Tom Donohue, Chamber president and CEO. "This award recognizes those lawmakers who have demonstrated leadership on important business issues such as trade, investment, and transportation."

“As a former member of the U.S. Chamber, I am honored to receive this award,” added Buchanan.  “I will continue working to strengthen our economy and create more jobs.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
