Congressman Buchanan Sworn-In to Represent FL-13

January 4, 2006

Washington, DC -- Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL13) was sworn-in to office today to represent Florida’s 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It is an honor and a privilege for me to represent the people of Florida’s 13th District,” said Buchanan.  “Regardless of whether they are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, I will listen to their concerns and be a strong advocate on their behalf.  I will remember the lessons of the November elections and work to restore trust and faith in Congress and confidence in our electoral process.”

“Today, with the swearing-in of a new Congress, we begin to address the needs of the people,” said Buchanan.  “The American people are expecting a new path toward victory in Iraq and I will work in a bipartisan manner to achieve that goal.  I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to control federal spending with a balanced budget amendment and line item veto.  I will also work to keep our promises to the many veterans and seniors in my District by providing adequate benefits and preserving Social Security and Medicare.  I will fight for our region by demanding our fair share of federal transportation dollars and working to make property insurance more affordable.”

Buchanan will serve on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the House Small Business Committee.  The Congressman’s offices are located at:
