Contact: Julianne Fisher, 202-224-1638
Friday, January 16, 2009

Washington, DCU.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) announced today that Mitchell Technical Institute will receive a $1,999,723 federal grant for job training programs.  The funding comes from the Department of Labor’s Community Based Job Training Grants program.
“Now more than ever, schools like Mitchell Tech are in demand by workers eager to acquire skills that make them more appealing to employers. My Hometown Prosperity Plan calls for investing in the public good, and this funding is a wonderful example of that kind of investment,” Johnson said.

The funds will be used for a combination of job training activities and programs to prepare individuals for careers in high-demand energy related industries.

South Dakota is one of 36 states that will receive this funding.

Senator Johnson's Hometown Prosperity Plan is a four-pillar agenda for advancing South Dakota's economy from the federal level.  The four pillars, or strategies, include "Promoting Partnerships," "Emphasizing Entrepreneurship," "Investing in the Public Good," and "Protecting Pocketbooks."  The full plan includes specific actions related to each strategy and can be downloaded from http://johnson.senate.gov.
