Rock Island Arsenal
The Rock Island Arsenal is the largest Army-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal. It houses the Army's only vertically integrated metal manufacturing facility and the only remaining U.S. Army foundry.
Noted for its expertise in the manufacture of weapons and weapon components, every phase of development and production is available at the Arsenal from prototype to full-scale production of major items, spare parts, and repair items. Some of its most successful manufactured products include the M198 and M119 Towed Howitzers, and the Forward Repair System (FRS). Currently, the Arsenal is producing armor kits used to protect vehicles from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Iraq.
In addition, the Rock Island Arsenal provides critical readiness and field support to troops deployed around the world through tenant organizations such as the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, the Joint Munitions Command, TACOM Life Cycle Management, Rock Island Arsenal-Joint Manufacturing & Technology Center. Time and time again, the employees of the Rock Island Arsenal have demonstrated the valuable support they provide to our war fighters.
Not only is the Rock Island Arsenal an integral part of the Army’s mission, it is critical to the economic viability of the Quad Cities area. I am committed to bringing in new business, missions, and jobs to protect its future and maintain its vital role in protecting our nation.
In the Fiscal Year 2008 Defense funding bill, I was able to secure several projects for the Arsenal, and I hope to deliver additional funds for the Arsenal in future defense bills.
