Broun's Four-Way Test
I am committed to protecting the constitutional rights and pocketbooks of every American. I will apply the following four-way test to every piece of legislation that comes before the House for a vote:

1) Is it Moral / Right?                 3) Is it Necessary?
2) Is it Constitutional?                4) Is it Affordable?

Bipartisan Congressional Pay Raise Freeze Receives Support from Congressional Watchdogs
Dr. Broun Supports 2010 Pay Freeze

January 15, 2009

Washington D.C.- Bipartisan legislation to freeze congressional automatic pay adjustments in 2010 received support from Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) and also outside organizations including the Citizens Against Government Waste, The National Taxpayers Union, Taxpayers for Common Sense and the Senior Citizens League.

“Georgia’s families are tightening their budget belts during these tough economic times and members of Congress should do the same.   Congress has irresponsibly asked hardworking middle-class families to foot the bill this year for unaffordable ‘stimulus’ packages and bailouts.  As such, lawmakers should support a pay freeze for 2010 and start doing their jobs again – this includes managing America’s budget the same way hardworking families balance their households.

“It is high time for lawmakers to practice what they preach and join the millions of middle-class Americans who will not receive a cost-of-living adjustment next year,” said Dr. Paul Broun.

The Stop the Congressional Pay Raise Act (H.R. 156) sponsored by Reps. Harry Mitchell (D-Ariz.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) would prevent members of Congress from receiving their automatic pay adjustment in 2010. The bill has 78 cosponsors.
