Lecture one in the 2009 Panorama Aviation Seminar Series.
Accidents - Rarely does one occur that is not preventable. Join Naji Malek from USAIG insurance for a review of several accidents he has investigated in recent years. This is more than a lecture, you'll be called upon for your opinion on what happened as you piece together the chain of events that led to these local accidents. What you learn might just prevent YOU from having an accident.
There will also be a review of the Eastern Region's Accident/Incident causal factors for the 2008 calendar year.
In attending this seminar, and others like it, you can become part of the FAA Pilot Proficiency Award Program [also known as WINGS] by participating in a recurrent training program. The new program, started in Jan 08, was expanded and developed for a higher level of safety by employing consistent recurrent training, which has been identified as a major factor in reducing [GA] accident rates. If you look on faasafety.gov website for WINGS - Pilot Proficiency Program you can go through a very helpful 20 minute tutorial designed to assist in your understanding of the new WINGS and to help you get started.
The program is now web based and developed to present training and track progress. Participation is voluntary and there are no regulation changes. It includes target maneuvers and knowledge areas that are consistently identified as causal factors in accidents. Build your profile, pick your aircraft categories, and select the level of proficiency desired – basic, advanced, or master. The new system tracks events and when items are due, and as you complete elements the flight and knowledge training credits are posted and available for you to review. Remember, like today’s seminar program, WINGS is designed to help keep you safe. We appreciate your participation in today’s event.
