Greetings everyone! I hope this email finds you well.

I wanted to let you know what discussions I am fixing up for us over the
next 6 months or so, and I'm also very interested to hear what types of
discussions you all would like to have on the List.

I plan to generate a discussion next week asking you about the kinds of
in-class assessments you do with students (i.e.: formative assessment).
I have some resources that were developed in my programs when I was
director back in the 90s that I will share with you, and that I hope
spark your interest to share your own resources, or perhaps generate
your own. We spend so much time discussing end-of-cycle tests like the
ones required by the NRS (these are considered summative assessments),
so I wanted to shift us back to our classrooms and programs to talk
about what you do on a daily basis with students. Here are a few
resources for you to check out if you are interested - all are focused
on the use (or lack of use) of formative assessment:

The other discussions I have in mind will focus on the following: Using
Data for Program Improvement (panel discussion); Teaching the GED (guest
speakers); and I hope to also include Using Data for Instructional
Improvement as well.

What do you think?

Now your turn! What topics, issues and interests do you have that you
would like to see discussed here? This List is yours so please let me
know how you would like to see it used. I'll do my best to organize or
generate any/all discussions that are relevant to us here. Feel free to
respond to the whole List or just to me if you prefer to do that. I
welcome and encourage your ideas and input.

Thank you so much and looking forward to a chatty 2007!

marie
